Free e-books from Tor are back

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

To mark the return of the freebie, Tor is giving away e-copies of two recent nominees for World Fantasy Award for Best Novel; the publisher sounds pretty excited:

“Will Shetterly and Emma Bull are the first married couple to each simultaneously have a novel among the finalists for the World Fantasy Award—Emma’s Territory and Will’s The Gospel of the Knife. In commemoration of this, we’re offering registered Tor.com users free e-book editions of a pair of classics from the Bull and Shetterly backlists—Emma’s War for the Oaks and Will’s Dogland. Check them out here!”

Spaceships and unicorns never had so much fun together

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Tor.com continues to make sci-fi and fantasy books available free (as in no cost beyond your online access) to its subscribers, which involves a fairly painless subscription process. This week’s entry is In the Midnight Hour by Patti O’Shea.
Attention, Battlestar Galactica fans: Next week’s installment is Battlestar Galactica by Jeffery Carver.
Whether you’re a sci-fi/fantasy fan or not, you can’t complain about the price.
Of course, publishers know that it’s far cheaper to buy a copy of the book than to print out 200-plus pages on your PC’s printer (have you seen the price of inkjet cartridges lately?), so if you want a hard copy of the book, prepare to pony up.
Meantime, if you’re looking for a fresh wallpaper on your desktop or laptop, take a gander at the offerings below.
