This could explain the long wait for the first “Star Trek” movie.
Turns out, William Shatner writes in his new autobiography “Up Till Now,” most of the show’s cast hated him. Nichelle Nichols (Uhuru) bluntly told him she despised him. And to think they shared television’s first interracial kiss.
Shatner writes that he spent the years following the show’s three-season run trying to repair the damaged relationships. He did become close with Leonard Nimoy (Spock), who guest-writes in the book about his alcoholism. Nimoy later helped Shatner deal the alcoholism of Shatner’s third wife, who drowned in their pool.
Shatner’s career has revived in recent years, in self-depricating TV commercials and his role as the hilariously bombastic lawyer (“Denny Crain!”) on “Boston Legal.”
“Up Till Now,” ISBN 9780312372651, is due to be published May 13 by St. Martin’s Press.
